Please note, ISBE2020 has been postponed and will now take place in Melbourne on 11 – 16 September 2022.

Travel Grants

Application for Travel Grants provided by ISBE are now open and close on 2 March 2020.

Regardless of their citizenship or country of residence, Ph.D. students or postdocs (or other recent Ph.D.s in temporary positions which offer minimal institutional support for meeting travel) are eligible to apply for funding to offset the costs of transportation to the Congress. Faculty whose home institutions are located in developing nations are also eligible to apply.

Award recipients are required to be current members of ISBE. If you were a member in 2018-2019, you should have received an email reminder to renew; if the renewal email failed to reach you or you were not a member in 2018-2019, you can join the Society here.

About the Application

The application is short, but it should be completed after you have submitted your abstract and have an estimate of how much it will cost to travel to Melbourne. In addition to basics such as contact information, year Ph.D. anticipated or awarded, advisor/supervisor’s name and email address, you’ll need to provide:

  • The title of your presentation
  • List of co-authors
  • A pasted-in copy of your abstract
  • An estimate of your transportation cost (in USD) for the meeting (as provided by google flights,  skyscanner, etc.)

A question also asks whether your home institution is in a developing nation; ISBE defines ‘developing nations’ based on World Bank Income Categories, and the current list is available here.

To make your application please complete the application form here

All funds are awarded on a competitive basis, and you will be asked to include a copy of the abstract of your meeting presentation to assist ISBE’s Travel Award Committee in reviewing your application. Funding levels and award amounts will depend on the number of applications received and the travel costs of the applicant pool.  Funding decisions are based largely on the likely impact of your research results on the field of behavioral ecology.

Applicants will be notified via email of their funding status by early or mid-May. If you applied for an award and do not receive an email from the Award Committee by May 12,  please contact ISBE’s Treasurer at plsch@ou.edu

 Award distribution

Funds are provided as cheques in USD, which will be distributed at the Congress when delegates register onsite and receive their Congress material.
